Le Serment de Spartacus by Louis-Ernest Barrias (1869) Jardin des Tuileries - Paris |
“It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue,
and so to make a few objects beautiful;
but it is far more glorious to carve and paint
the very atmosphere and medium through which we look...
To affect the quality of the day — that is the highest of arts.”
- Henry David Thoreau

Ooh, nice. Henry David Thoreau was the master of simple and authentic living. I'm so glad you posted this, Catherine. I love the last line. It's such a good reminder to live on.
ReplyDeleteValentina - If you get a chance to read some of Thoreau's writings, I think you'll be able to relate to his love of the natural world and his yearnings for a simple life :)
ReplyDeleteCharmaine - Thank you, so happy you like the quote too! As you mentioned, it certainly IS a good reminder to [re]gain perspective and [re]focus...
