Fall | l'Automne - Part II

11.03.2012

Right around the peak of Fall, I like to walk past the rows of maples, hickories and golden poplars in my neighborhood and wait for a gust of wind to spill the leaves into the sky above me. Then watch them drift and dance, dip then drift again. It's a show I look forward to every year, one that never ever gets old...

These photos were taken from the past couple of weeks, before leaves on the ground began to outnumber foliage left on many trees, when Fall colors were at their most brilliant, when I took that walk by the trees in earnest.

Now that mornings carry the chill of the impending winter, I must confess I'm more content watching the show from inside. You see, I'm bias toward the 50 degree and over Fall. So even when my heart yearns to go out, the rest of my body refuses ... alas, I'm hoping for some days with higher temperatures in the next several weeks left of Fall...

How is your Fall going?

    1. You describe Fall very well Alexa! Next year, we'll have to make leaf piles to jump on - for Alex and all the kids ;) ... btw, what is your favorite season?

  3. Ah, how well you put it, my body also rebels at the thought of too-cold a Fall:) And something lovely about the season is the cozy thought of sweaters, warming cups of tea or cocoa, views of leaves...all of which are *easily* enjoyed from inside! This set of photos are gorgeous - all those rustic fall colors!

    1. Glad to hear I'm not alone Lulu,... maybe we belong on more temperate climates ;) I can't agree with you more though, heading indoors isn't a bad thing at the end of the day - a cozy blanket and hot chocolate is the best!

  5. So beautiful, Catherine. Your love letter to autumn... I'm having a hard time picking a favorite here. The colors of the pumpkins and gourds are rich, yet soft and peaceful with the lighter shaded ones. A visual poem, and your words are just the icing on the cake! I, too, am enjoying autumn--it's actually been rather mild this week. It's supposed to turn soon though... Bracing for that PNW rain!

    1. I'm going to head over to your blog to see how Fall is dressed in the Pacific Northwest... I imagine with the coming rain and chill, it will be moody and nostalgic, a writer's delight :) Thank you for your always thoughtful comments Charmaine + enjoy the rest of your most favorite season, xo

  6. Such beautiful pictures, Catherine! All the leaves are gone here and it's really cold, but we are so fortunate to have missed the terrible weather in the East Coast. Hope you and your family are safe and sound!

    1. Thank you so much Melinda! It's always a bit sad to have all those marvelous Fall colors come and go so fast, but from your blog it seems you really got to enjoy its peak. Good to know you missed the recent storm, stay safe + warm as well :)
