...what could be better, really, than an evening by the fire with a book, with the wind beating on the panes, the lamp burning?Your head is empty,... the hours slip away. From the chair you wander through the countries of your mind, and your thoughts, threading themselves into the fiction, play about with the details or rush along the track of the plot. You melt into the characters; it seems as if your own heart is beating under their skin.

A lost art! I love reading in all forms, but there is indeed something to be said about a printed book, it's binding tactile in your hand, the smell of the print...Flaubert had it right:)
ReplyDeleteFor that reason, Lulu, I haven't been able to make the switch to reading books (and even long articles) digitally... it's just not the same. Big bookstores in my area are closing down one by one by one, it's sad. So I frequent used book stores and stay in them for hours browsing, flipping through the pages, and reading. The other day, the owners flickered the lights to signal their closing - and basically booted me out! ;)
Deletegreeting!
ReplyDeletewell with you, silence is also needed occasionally to give himself up
only to the extent (a pleasant bustle does not relax
I think that at a younger age were familiar to me these thoughts, but they mean nothing in comparison to what proihodit around us)

Hello Valentina! Reading is indeed a silent sacred space :)
DeleteI love to read! How you describe it, it's so wonderful! I enjoy printed books more. The binding in your hand, the smell of the pages......
ReplyDeleteI know you're an avid reader Alexa,... I hope physical bound books stay around for many years to come. In fact, I just heard in the news about authors opening up smaller bookstores in their neighborhoods where the bigger ones have closed. AND they're doing well :)
