Destination France...

10.17.2013
France and French flags

France calls one of her sons home again... and so my husband, along with me and our two boys, will be heading across the Atlantic in a few days for a little visit. France is not only my husband's motherland but also home to his aging parents, affectionate childhood friends and fond faraway memories... each return and departure is always bittersweet.

We'll be doing a lot of driving on our trip. Main stops include Orléans, known for Jeanne d'Arc's triumphant victory lifting the British siege over the city; Gers, a region in Southwest France famed for its foie gras; and of course Paris. I'll be posting photos on Instagram if you'd like to follow along... à bientôt (see you soon)...

The Need to Wander...

Distance and difference are the secret tonic of creativity. When we get home, home is still the same.
But something in our mind has changed, and that changes everything.  - Jonah Lehrer

Happiness | Le Bonheur

the in-between time & fragments of the everyday

Happiness is... satisfaction in finding a new hiding place underneath the couch cushion / dangling little feet / an impromptu recorder solo / a pensive reading pause / the boys' secret handshake...

at the Farm | à la Ferme

A visit to the farm with children

Goats, chickens and a llama oh my!

I had a chance to visit our local farm last week with my son's class of curious two and three year-olds - little people who possessed the purest delight over the colorful and lively landscape, who had absolutely no fear of animals and no squeamish concern about germs, dirt and dung.

I love that children constantly remind us how to see and look again, more openly, the way we used to and still can, to see the world with a fresh and unfettered lens...

Trois {3} on Thursday

10.03.2013

a mélange of finds + favorites to share:
  1. Carrot soup - the weather in the DC region shifted this week to more summer-like temperatures, but my heart remains squarely focused on the Fall and all the goodness associated with it,... like this cozy carrot soup I'd love to make one day.
  2. Mini Brioche rolls - since learning how to make country bread, my husband was wondering if we could add brioche to the mix. Wouldn't these mini brioche rolls go nicely with the carrot soup (though they look good enough to eat as a meal!).
  3. Under This Moon necklace - this delicate lunar necklace is a lovely way to remember what the Moon looked like on your birthday, wedding, graduation or any special date... I'm tinkering with the idea of giving it to an old friend as part of his wedding gift... what do you think?

Trois on Thursday picks are a few personal finds and favorites, and are NOT paid endorsements.
