It was late morning and over the Palais Royal gardens the clouds looked to be dissipating... a peek of sunlight lasted but a moment, then the slippery watercolor grey skies* hovered over the city once again. This is typical for Paris winters I'm told. The veiled sunlight though is luminous still.
Very few people made it out to these lovely gardens this January morning, so for a long while it was just me, a few joggers and a sweet little lady who came it seemed to feed her very own flock of pigeons.

* thank you Adrienne for this perfect color description for Paris winter skies
I love how you frame your photos, Catherine. There is so much to see. On the news tonight, a woman was complaining that she couldn't get back to NYC because of the snow on the east coast of the US. I thought that there could be lots of worse places to be stranded!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Barb :) I read a former Paris resident once say that while here, one surrenders all their rights to complain ;)
DeleteAh, so lovely!!!! <3

Mmm, such a peaceful morning, Catherine. I love the photo with the lady feeding the pigeons, very sweet :) xoxc
ReplyDeleteThank you Charmaine! I took quite a few photos of this sweet lady and wanted to say thank you, but she was so enraptured by her little birds :) xo
DeleteWonderful quiet morning and no tourist far and wide! Precious moments.
ReplyDeleteI love the repetition of all those arched doors and windows!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure to follow this captures....
ReplyDeleteThese are simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteStunning! Black and white, color ... you can't miss with Paris!
ReplyDeleteThese are just delightful and to read your story behind them, even more special. Great use of black/white on some and color on others - so nicely done.
ReplyDeleteMagnificent shots ~ how beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend coming to you,
artmusedog and carol
Dear Catherine, last time I visited Palais Royal, it was in the summer, so the difference with your picture is striking. This is a gorgeous place, so poised (the echoeing arches) and so dreamy at the same time...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I wish I could see these sites in person. Maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why, but seeing this just made me realize it's been 13 years since I've been to Paris. I think I'm definitely due for a trip back!
ReplyDeleteThese scenes are so peaceful. Early morning hours are definitely the best times. I am looking forward to spring and fall mornings once the cold weather is gone (but I do enjoy winter as well) to wander more.
ReplyDeleteThank you all so much for your very kind comments! :) xo
