If you were to run out on a weekday afternoon during August in Paris, why, you'd wonder if you missed the announcement to abandon the city. It is
that quiet (outside of the main tourist attractions anyway). So empty of cars and pedestrian traffic I can
almost cross the street without looking! Many Parisians are away for the month on their annual summer break, boulangeries and neighborhood boutiques are temporarily closed, and even pharmacies and dry cleaners post signs announcing limited hours...
So essentially much of the noise of the city dies down, along the streets of one's
quartier it's quiet, and the hum of summer floats through Paris in a wondrous rapture.

In summer, the song sings itself ― William Carlos Williams
Almost the same scenario here in Russia. The city would look like an abandoned city sometimes as most of people are either abroad or in the resthouse in the countryside.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great! And your pictures are beautiful, as always!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Katrin! :)
DeleteExcept for closed boulangeries it sounds heavenly!
ReplyDeleteNeat shots!

Ha, ha -- what Dotti said.
ReplyDeleteIt must be great, but yet odd for it to be so quiet :) #ourworldtuesday
ReplyDeleteOdd for sure, for a town normally so crowded... but the quiet is so so nice :)
Deletebeautiful…
ReplyDeletewhat camera do you shoot with? These photos capture my heart.
Aw thank you Jamie :)... all the photos for this post were taken with my iPhone and edited using the VSCO app. xo
DeleteThat's amazing! You have such a good eye, friend. Miss you! xoxo
DeleteThe best time to be in the city is when everyone else has gone elsewhere. How lovely are these scenes, Catherine.
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful! Except, I would want a few of my stand-by shops open. Your city is a fairy-tale to me!
ReplyDeleteThe city surrenders to a different rhythm in August and it is amazing to see how people seem to be more relaxed and ready to tak and share, don't you think? I like to think this is due to the outdoorsy lifestyle we can lead once the weather allows us to come out of our protective shells ;-)
ReplyDeleteI'd love the August quiet - your photos show a kind of hush. I had forgotten that William Carlos Williams quote - it's so apt. I imagine the boys will soon be back to school. By tomorrow, all my Grands will be back. Our small resort town will also be much less crowded. It's one of my favorite times. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteI think I should visit in August!
